China Yuchai Launches China’s First Operational Hydrogen Engine For Commercial Vehicles

China Yuchai International, one of the leading manufacturers and distributors of on-road and off-road application engines in China through its main operating subsidiary, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited (GYMCL), announced that the engine to The company’s hydrogen YCK05 achieved stable ignition and operation. during a recent demonstration at the Beijing Institute of Technology. The YCK05 engine is the first operating hydrogen engine for the Chinese commercial vehicle market, the world’s largest commercial vehicle market.

Lighting Ceremony at the Beijing Institute of Technology

YCK05 hydrogen engine adopts a number of advanced special technologies such as high pressure multi-point intake air injection technology; high efficiency, low inertia turbocharger technology; and high efficiency lean combustion technology. The engine design improves the structure of the engine and its subsystems such as combustion and gas distribution systems.

The commercially available diesel version of the YCK05 has a power range of 190-240 PS and a maximum torque of 900 N m

This achievement is another milestone of Yuchai’s hydrogen technology in the development of hydrogen power as an environmentally friendly alternative propulsion system, following the introduction of fuel cell technology to Yuchai hydrogen.

Yuchai has taken the initiative to initiate research and development of hydrogen engines for Chinese domestic commercial vehicles, and has strengthened its scientific research cooperation with the Beijing Institute of Technology.

The Beijing Institute of Technology has been researching in the field of hydrogen engines for nearly 20 years, and has accumulated rich experience in the research and development of hydrogen engines.

Yuchai will use its vast experience and advantages in the research and development of internal combustion engines to develop a solid process to transform hydrogen engine developments into large-scale mass production of such engines.

YCK05 hydrogen engines can be widely used in the bus, municipal, sanitation, logistics and distribution markets.

Through our progress in the development of hydrogen engines, we have grown to become the national company with the largest portfolio of engine technologies consisting of traditional internal combustion engines, gasoline engines, hybrid engines and new energy technologies. We look forward to the commercialization of hydrogen engines in the future to meet the needs of our diverse customer base and help improve the environment.
