Cummins B4.5 marine generator set and engine are European

Cummins Inc. has announced the European launch of its new B4.5 marine generator and propulsion engine, extending hybrid-capable packages beyond the current QSB6.7 and QSL9. The pairing debuted in late 2021 at the Pacific Marine Expo, a commercial fishing event in Washington, USA, with a production release scheduled for mid to late 2022.

Available separately or as a hybrid package, the B4.5 engine and generator set are two of Cummins’ smallest yet most powerful marine offerings. Based on the proven industrial engine, the B4.5 is available for commercial and recreational propulsion applications, complying with IMO II, ST V and ECD 2 regulations without the use of aftertreatment. This lightweight, power-dense engine is powerful, offering a power range of 102 to 250 horsepower (76 to 186 kW).

“With the excitement generated by the arrival of the B4.5 in the marine market, customers have placed orders for the commercial generator as well as the propulsion package for government, commercial and pleasure vessels. The B4.5 shares many proven QSB6.7-M marine specific components in a small footprint,” said Patrick Deegan, Country Manager – Ireland.

“Power ratings of (150-250 hp for propulsion) and (76-129 kWm for auxiliary) offer no compromise in terms of fuel economy, durability and reliability that our customers rely on in their operations. . Understanding that the 99 kW commercial generator node is very popular in some markets, we expect the B4.5 generator set with a Stamford alternator to be an easy choice when selecting power for operators for years to come. .

The B4.5 engine is available with a base warranty of 24 months or 1,000 hours for heavy-duty and light-duty applications; 24 months or 3,000 hours for intermittent duty applications; or 24 months or unlimited hours for continuous duty and prime power applications. B4.5 marine offerings are backed by Cummins network of more than 9,000 service locations and dealers worldwide.
