After launching the development of its 600 kW powertrain for 19-seater aircraft last year, ZeroAvia has taken the first major milestone of the HyFlyer II program.

The ground test involved the 600 kW powertrain planned for the ZeroAvia flight, pulling the new 15-ton ZeroAvia HyperTruck mobile ground test platform onto the tarmac.

The HyperTruck, developed on the basis of heavy military trucks, is sized for the company’s ZA-2000 2MW + powertrain, which can be used to test 40- to 80-seat hydrogen-powered aircraft systems.

Ground testing of the propulsion system supports the development of the company’s HyFlyer II program, which will provide a zero-emission, hydrogen-electric propulsion system for cells of 10 to 20 seats.

This is the first high power test of the ZA-600 from ZeroAvia, which launches its test program for the Intent-to-Flight Hardware to prepare the system for flight. The first landmark test flights of the HyFlyer II Dornier 228 aircraft test stand are scheduled to take place later this year from ZeroAvia’s UK facilities in Kemble.
